The programme’s structure was inspired by Giambattista Vico’s Scienze Nuova which posited the notion of an “ideal history” consisting of three endlessly repeating cycles followed by a cataclysmic return to chaos.
Tea reprised the Dining Room scene from Matin Après-Midi and, while continuing to explore relationships of control and ritual, introduced an element of restraint creating an uneasy power struggle.
