Presented as part of Rules and Regs at a space, Southampton.

Five artists have one month to create new performance in response to a set of rules:

- The artist must contradict their expectation of audience
- The artist must collaborate
- The work must reflect on its own re-production

Each artist took over a vault under Southampton’s old town culminating in a weekend of live performance. Audience memebrs were led from vault to vault, enjoying a unique and unusual journey.

For Quilter’s Quadrille, audience members were presented with a set of dance steps to be performed at will on the prepared dancefloor, complete with mirror ball and floor lights, rendered surreal and uncanny by its vault location.

As a constant metronome strikes the call to dance in the former air raid shelter, those dancing begin to question whether their steps are a frivolous way of passing time or a perpetual reminder of the inexorable passage of time.

Choose a position on the dancefloor. Begin when ready. Step forward with left foot. Bring feet together. Step forward with right foot. Bring feet together. Step back with left foot. Bring feet together. Step back with right foot. Bring feet together. Repeat.
